TEST REPORT OF GBFS

Granulated Blast Furnace Slag or GBFS is formed when Blast Furnace Slag or BFS is successively at a fast rate quenched from the furnace rather than left for cooling. It has a density of about 60% to 70% that of natural sand. This material has a much increased resistance to sulfate attack. This eventually leads to better performance in countering acids of any type. In GBFS, no type of reaction related to alkali and silica occurs. Also the material provides a huge saving in connection to carbon dioxide emission which is an extra boon. What constitutes GBFS are its properties that consist of durability, appearance, higher ultimate strength than concrete which is made up of Portland cement and high sustainability level of the product made out of this material.

Type of Production process at Royal Mineral

  • The composition of the slag varies as per the impurities that are present and also on the composition of the raw materials through which the product has to be extracted. So first of all, the molten Blast furnace slag or BFS is separated from molten iron. Then the slag is made to run into or transported to ground area for air-cooling purposes.

  • Here it solidifies and converts into a rock. The rock is called crystalline Blast furnace slag. Now the quenching of molded slag is done rapidly by passing it through high pressure trough and then consequently into high pressure sprays of water.

  • This procedure eventually causes the molten slag to overheat and this leads into its explosion. This explosion that occurs forms what we know as Granulated Blast Furnace Slag or GBFS. This is then stocked in piles where it is dewatered and collected with conventional front-end loaders.
